Honda Accord 2003 EX-V6 Transmission Failure Christian Donner, March 4, 2009December 22, 2013 [Visit the Facebook Group] So we joined the ranks of people who own a 2003 Honda Accord with a broken transmission. As of 3/4/2009, Carcomplaints.com listed close to 200 similar cases, and it is safe to assume that there were many more who have not found that website, but paid the $3500 that it costs to have the transmission replaced. The damage to Honda’s reliability reputation must be devastating already, but no recall has been issued. Initially, we did not feel quite ready to spend this kind of money, either. I thought that maybe a new transmission was not really needed. Given today’s market conditions, $3500 pays the lease for 3 to 4 years for a comparable car, and the Accord has already been costing thousands in repairs over the past 2 years. I was especially frustrated because I suspected there was something wrong with this transmission from day one. The moment of hesitation that we always noticed before the transmission shifted from first to second gear was probably related to the failure (the transmission recall in 2004 was certainly related to the failure, but was designed to minize cost and liability, not to permanently resolve the issue). I had brought the car in after only a few months of driving in 2003 because of the odd characteristics of the transmission, but I was ridiculed and sent home again. Here is a history of related events: 1/3/2003 Purchased the car at a local Honda dealer 7/28/2003 Took the car to another local Honda dealer where a service technician drove it and determined that there was nothing wrong with the transmission (at 11,000 miles) 9/21/2004 Transmission recall, Honda dealer installed oil jet kit, transmission was not replaced 9/30/2008 Transmission service at Honda dealer (at 111,000 miles) 2/13/2009 Transmission failed on I95, shifts into first gear only, no reverse (at 120,000 miles) 3/3/2009 Transmission fluid replaced, old fluid was very dark The car seemed to drive fine when the transmission was cold, but when it warmed up after a few minutes of highway driving, the transmission would down-shift violently into first gear, regardless of the current speed. My wife reported the smell of ‘burnt rubber’ in the car after such a forced down-shift. This seemed to be quite dangerous. Once this happened, the transmission would fail to shift into anything but first gear. Honda apparently lost a class action for the 2000/2001 Accord and other models in 2006. I was unable to find any current class action initiative that includes the 2003 model year. If you are an attorney who is willing to work with me on a class action against Honda USA, please contact me at . If you have similar transmission problems with your 2003 Accord, please contact me as well, or post your complaint on Carcomplaints.com as well so that there is a record of it. Regardless of what you are planning to do, you should file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – they can force a recall if there is a sufficient number of documented issues. 3/22/2009 Update: We had to make a decision and decided to replace the transmission. Our side of the bill: $2200. Honda paid $900. 4/1/2010 Update: The NHTSA website today lists 328 complaints for the 2003 Accord and 188 for the 2003 Odyssey that describe transmission problems. A search does not show a current or past defect investigation for this problem. It is not documented what criteria and process the NHTSA uses to prioritize their work, but safety does not seem to be a factor. Instead, it seems that the NHTSA works on those problems first that pose the smallest financial risks to auto manufacturers. For instance, the February 2010 report lists a defect investigation for the 2003 Accord about a problem with the ignition switch (park/shift interlock). There are 11(!) complaints on file for this type of issue, and yet, the NHTSA chose to investigate it. Replacing an ignition switch is inexpensive, compared to the cost of replacing an automatic transmission. People will die from a failing Accord transmission, or already have. Honda should be prepared for the same disaster that Toyota is going through right now. Apparently, neither authorities nor car manufactures can learn from past mistakes, and since nobody will be held accountable, why should they? 1/8/2011 The New York Times publishes an article about transmission problems on Honda vehicles 11/16/2010 Update: The NHTSA has issued a recall for the 2003 Accord because of the ignition switch problem that I mentioned above. Kind of funny, actually … 5/23/2011 Update: The number of comments added to this blog post every month keeps rising – a sign that the rate of transmission failures is rising? 2/14/2013 Update: It is now clearly visible from the updated chart below that the number of incicents peaked late in 2011 with almost 30 posts per month and has now decreased to mere noise. If you are having this problem as late as 2013, you will be just a blip on Honda’s radar screen. 2003 accord ex v6, transmission just started to have some issues. Its having trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd, sometimes violently shifts from 3rd to 4th etc. Oh great…..
I joined a Facebook group that is dedicated to this… Everyone should go and join, share stories, etc. There has to be a way to reach everyone, and FB is a great place to start. https://www.facebook.com/groups/60518846891/
I have same issue with my 2003 Honda accord V6. I took it to the dealer and I found that transmission need to be replace and it will cost $4000
Just had the same issue. 2003 Accord V6 with 122K miles. Transmission was giving the “burnt rubber smell” and was hesitating as if the brakes were being applied. Looked at the fluid and it was a rusty orange color. its always been maintained by the dealer. They replaced the fluid at 61k and 96k. Took it to a non-Honda service center where the mechanic, whom I consider quite honest, told me he sees this problem all the time on Accords and Odysseys from this model year. $2260 for a rebuilt transmission. I plan on calling Honda and asking them to make this right.
Australia. The Honda still sits in the driveway after 6 months of wrestling with Honda Australia and the local dealer in Mornington. Here’s my latest letter to the Peninsula Honda dealer (that still remains unanswered, but i am ever confident of receiving a ‘We are in receipt of your letter…blah blah… and cannot at this stage..blah blah… happy motoring) Dear Honda Dudes I have given up with waiting for call backs from Honda Australia. A quick refresh on the situation I bought a quality (can you feel the sarcasm?) used car from you in July 2011. A 2004 Honda Accord V6 Luxury ( you can tell it was the luxury model, because it didn’t explode when you turned the key) The transmission shit it itself at Christmas. I had you guys check it out and was told it was a total transmission fail and that these things happen. (sort of like heart attacks, plane crashes and safes falling from the sky) You’ll need a new one. Blah blah. Yes, it was overdue for a service by a month and the extra warranty evidently doesn’t cover transmissions (gee, why didn’t I ask at the time??? It probably covered the fckn cup holders and the vanity mirror light). Evidently quality used cars always destroy their transmissions when they don’t get their overpriced service on time. How completely stupid of us used car buyers not to realise this. So, here we are staring down the barrel of a $6500 fix. (on a car conceivably worth maybe, on a good day, to a blind person on valium A$10,000) But that’s fine, I have heard all 2004 Accord drivers have an extra $6500 in the glovebox in case of emergencies. Not for stupid stuff like education, health, clothes, food and rent, but for transmissions.) I’ve heard in the USA Honda realised the transmission was at risk and have been fixing and replacing and generally helping the owners out where they can. They even extended the warranty in order to help as many vehicles as they could (nice huh? but surely too good to be true). Check out http://www.justanswer.com/honda/4xhix-honda-accord-reasonable-price-replace-transmission.html There’s a bazillion complaints when you start looking I am wondering if there are any such contingencies here? Or can you offer any help at all in getting this lemon on the road again so I can drive it off a cliff. Did I also mention the fake wood grain plastic dash panels fall off when its hot? Actually they’re real plastic not fake plastic.. it’s the wood bit that’s fake.. but I knew that, I know plastic wood when i see it, it’s just that I thought they’d be attached to the dashboard in some way..like with some adhesive, not just good luck and spit) Money would be nice or a used transmission so I can get a mate to install it, make it go long enough for a trade in and let an unsuspecting dealer take the hit on a car that is ticking time bomb. Its done 90,000K (surely a miracle) Its a depressing grey/silver colour (should be yellow) A question for you. When is a transmission filter not a transmission filter.? I’ll tell you. When it’s an integral, non changeable, non replaceable, non cleanable component of the stupid transmission it’s designed to protect. I can almost hear people thinking as they change the engine oil, oil filter, transmission fluid etc…Hmmmm they say ‘ I should really change my transmission filter… just to do the right thing and extend the life of my expensive investment”. WRONG. The car currently sits at my Mothers place because I cant standing parking my borrowed car next to it. The borrowed car is a 1972 Mazda 1300. I’m sure I can see a smug little grin on its chrome radiator grill as it glances over at the future of automotive excellence. Looking forward to any response Mr Honda. really… anything. Email me dude. clark.paul583@gmail.com
I am another person having several issues with my Honda. It’s a 2003 Honda Accord I4 that just hit 120,000 miles. This car has been nothing but trouble with a long list I cannot go through at the moment. But, the latest is my transmission. I really just want to go office space on it but I have put waaay too much money into it for that.
Have a mint 2003 beautiful blue Honda Accord V6 with 56,000 mi. Recalled a year or two aafter I got it for transmission problem – they put in something that squirted oil into the transmission if it overheated. The car recently raced in drive like it was in neutral for a few minutes (scary). Thought it was me because it then was OK until 5 days later when it did the same thing then slowed to almost a stop in drive even when I stepped on the gas. Tried shifting to other gears – then it worked again. Yup…you guessed it…my beautiful running, spotlessly clean…dingless Honda needs a new transmission!!! $4,000 quote from Honda. Well…guess I join the crowd to fight Honda. Tnx for the input everyone on your troubles.
I just bit the bullet and paid over $3500 to get my transmission replaced. Less than 125k miles. And I had to find my own remanufactured transmission to cut the price by $1k. Otherwise it would have cost $4500. Just an FYI — according to my dealer, the transmission they were going to charge me $4500 for was also a remanufactured – NOT new – transmission. So I got the same tranny, plus a 3 year warranty, and saved a thousand bucks in the process. So far Honda has given me the big F-U: your car is 9 years old and out of warranty. Yes, I know it’s no longer under warranty – thanks for the heads up. But it still only has 125k miles.
2003 accord ex v6, looks perfectly fine with nice interior and now started giving transmission problems…car runs fine on regular speed but gets into neutral when i am turning or slow down for something. not sure what to do in this case.
I have an auto 03 accord v6 and started experiencing the gears slipping. At times felt like my engine was going to pop into reverse while driving. Does anyone know if the clutch be replaced?
9/3/12 hi folks, add me to the list. 2003 ex v6 accord. smoked transmission driving on i95 140,000 miles. dealer serviced. one owner. thanks honda!
I have exact same problem. Same car. Told me I need a transmission plus all three motor Mounts need to be replaced. I am orig owner and my car bearly hit 100,000 miles. It’s costing me almost 3000 to repair. I’ve also been looking into recalls for this matter. Dont know if I should fix the problem. Dealer not willing to help out but just charge me more and more money for all kinds of other things adding to almost 6000 dlrs. Don’t evn know if it’s worth fixing from all the reviews I’ve been hearing
I own a 2003 Honda Accord with a v-6 also, and am having the same transmission issues.Honda has basically said f-u.I WILL BE OUT UF ALMOST $4000.00 to get it fixed.THIS SUCKS.
Yup, add one more. 2003 Honda Accord EX-V6. Car had exactly the same problem start today: ” .. raced in drive like it was in neutral for a few minutes (scary). Thought it was me because it then was OK until 5 days later when it did the same thing then slowed to almost a stop in drive even when I stepped on the gas. Tried shifting to other gears – then it worked again.”
I have a 2001 Honda accord V6 engine its piece of junk. About six months back I had to replace rack and pinion and front motot mound. Last week on a free way rubber burning smell came out from the car and fourth gear light splashing and transmission started making hard driving
2003 Honda accord v6. I have the same problem. And. It’s the second time with the transmition failure Help ! Some body. Tell me what’s wrong with this cars!!
We just did the timing belt/water pump, etc., and one month later, tranny is starting to slip. Getting away from smooth drive to somewhat ‘thrust.” Hate to get gouged for new tranny. The V-6 is otherwise still a mint, really nice looking Honda accord ex. But there are too many stories of the second tranny failing. Same bad tranny. Our two other Honda were wonderful, but I’m not a loyalist any longer. BTW, our car only has 108,000 miles.
Same issue…193,000 transmission slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd…I put the transmission in neutral then back to drive…works for another 3 to 4 weeks
Add us to the list as well. 2003 Accord V6. Mint condition inside and out. Car hit 100,000 about 24 months ago. First water pump, timing belt, and a laundry list of other things had to be replaced at a cost of $1,000. We use a very honest local, independent repair shop. Six months later the transmission went out as my husband was driving on I-85 outside Atlanta. We paid the car off early and our plan is to drive it for 200,000+ miles. So, we bit the bullet and paid $5,000 to have a new transmission put in and several other little things fixed. This past Friday my husband went to start the car and, you guessed it, starter went bad. $495+ tax and an $80 tow later it is being fixed. There have been numerous recalls on this car and it looks like another is coming. I’ve seen where people have gotten Honda to pay at least part of their expenses. I be interested to know how they were successful in doing so.
My 2003 Honda Accord out of nowhere started bucking got off highway car slowed down to a stop in traffic would not move. Had car towed to my mechanic and was told there is no way to fix the vehicle. Said this Honda is made like that. Only thing to do is replace the transmission. 128,000 miles. What a shame. Anyone know if there has been a recall on this year?
Add me to the list! I have a 2003 Honda Accord V6, in condition. All but the transmission. It slips between gears. I’m in a debate should I repair the transmission since everything else is good with the car and the car is paid off or just get a new car and have a note? I just don’t know!
Add me to the list as well! I have a 2003 Honda Accord V6 in very good condition, except for the automatic transmission. It has been slipping between 1st & 2nd gears. I opted for the $3300 repair since everything else is good with the car and it’s paid for. It really hurt to pay so much, but at 135K I spent $800 last year for a timing belt, new water pump and serpentine belt. Now with 160K it’s rebuild transmission time. I hope for 300K before anything else major happens. if so, then it was $$$ worth spending.
I recently purchased a 2003 Accord V6 that only has 80,000 miles. 1 month after I purchased it the transmission started to slip. This is not a quality made product. Honda should be ashamed that they made such a poorly constructed vehicle.
My problems started at 150K with car stalling and unable to go above 30Miles/Hr. Mechanic said transmission is bad. Some 4000$ down the drain. Hopefully it lasts another 100K miles.
’03 accord coupe/ 4cyl (not a V6) 160k. Suddenly clutch pedal to floor, lost clutch. stranded, towed to Honda. Honda replaced clutch hydraulics twice, had to get towed in after each time. In process, of getting off freeway after losing clutch hydraulics 1st time, transmission went down – lost 2nd gear. $3500 for rebuild + new clutch: revised down to ~$2100.
2003 ex V6 $140K- transmission went out (similar issues to everyone else. Severe slippage from 1st to 2nd gear) $3500 to repair it with $3500 left on payments. problem!! I need to sell the car but cant. trying to seek recourse from Honda. this is ridiculous!
have an 03 Honda accord ex v6 with the same problem once it warms up none of the gears work you shut it off and turn the car back on it works fine for a couple of minutes and the same problem
This problem is not just related to 2003’s. I have a 2006 Accord V6,w ith 130,000 miles. Had the auto trans fluid service about 40,000 miles ago. Started acting up again, with abrupt and rough shifts. This past weekend, after about a 65 miles drive, the car wouldn’t get out of first. Stopped, waited a few and then wouldn’t drop into any gear. Once the tow truck arrived, I was able to Reverse and Drive with no problem. Towed to an independent repair shop, qouted $3900. Honda dealer over the phone said $4200 for remanufactured. Any advice???? I don’t have this kind of money to spend.
I had no idea that the ’04 Accord V6 is known to have transmission problems. After nearly getting killed when my car wouldn’t shift into gear on a busy city road, I was able to pull into a parking lot and have the car towed home. The car has 114,000 miles- too young to die. If there was ever a recall for this model, I never got a letter. I don’t expect to get any satisfaction from Honda. But that’s the last Honda I will ever buy.
My 2003 Accord LX V6 started having tranny issues last night. Shifted into D, went to pull out of the driveway, and it acted like it was in neutral. Drove to the mall and back, no more problems. This morning, it wouldn’t go into R, then it wouldn’t go into D, and then it spent the rest of the drive struggling to get into 3rd. It would shift out of 2nd, “flare” (rev with loss of power like it was in neutral), and after about 10 seconds of babying it, finally make it into 3rd. At one point it randomly downshifted into 3rd from a higher gear while doing about 45-50 mph. It has about 160k miles on it and had a tranny fluid flush ~2-3 months ago. Not looking forward to what the mechanic will say – I can’t dream of affording a $3000 bill right now.
Sitting at Honda dealership right now. For same issue on 03 Honda. Service manager even told me of all the 03 Honda transmissions they have had to replace. Rediculous. Acted like 4000 to replace was no big deal. What a joke
2003 V6 EX Coupe w/121000 miles. After years of servicing at Klein Honda, they tell me every time that the transmission fluid is black & needs to be changed out, even after getting it changed there on previous service times (you would think they would consider it a bigger problem after every visit, but hell no). Transmission started to downshift randomly getting up to 40mph on the freeway not catching any gears, stayed in the slow lanes scared as hell thinking it would die. Made it to work luckily, but 15 minutes after leaving work, transmission finally died & had to get it towed home knowing it would cost well over $3000 to replace.
I have a 2003 V6 engine Honda Accord with same issues. Shift into third gear roughly and also slips from time to time. Even goes into reverse rough sometimes too. I am really hoping they recall the whole transmission soon!
Same problem. Accord 2003 v6, 150k miles, transmission gets on neutral while trying to accelerate. No more Honda.
I just purchased a 2003 Honda Accord V6 with 120,000 miles. It runs and shifts beautifully. Apparently this car has been pampered. However, most of the 2003 V6 Accords I have personally driven have transmission issues. One I drove yesterday actually spun the tires on the 2-3 upshift at 70, on dry pavement! Scary then but it would be dangerous on a damp road. I took it back and the dealer shrugged his shoulders and sold it later that day to an unsuspecting couple. I love the way these cars drive when the transmission is good, but I never knew how many actually go bad. Shame on Honda for ignoring this common issue and not making it right! I am a Honda man but I am considering buying a Nissan for my next car.
Add me to the list: 2003 V6 Honda Accord 120k. The scariest part was that I had my two year old daughter in the backseat while it happened. I was trying to go up a hill and of course it wouldn’t go anywhere but backwards. I got rid of my 1998 Honda Accord 5 years ago because the transmission died on me and I purchased the newer one figuring I shouldn’t have a problem. Definitely not getting another Honda and definitely informing each and every one of my family members, coworkers, friends, acquaintances and strangers I meet at the coffee shop or anywhere that they should stray far far away from the Honda Dealership when purchasing a car.
I have a 2003 Honda Accord ex v6 great car except for the transmission. It has been acting up for the last year, It has never been abused since I have owned it. Had 150,000 kilometers on it when I bought it. (now has 250,00 kilometers) When it shifts into 3rd gear @ approx 40 kl it will sometimes go into neutral (slip) I shift back into D2 and tranny goes into 2nd gear I give a bit of gas and accelerate shift into D4 and car works good for 5 -10 starts then it repeats itself. I am not willing to spend a lot of money as this is an older car now. I have been a honda owner since the early 80,s . Still like Honda products but I just bought a Mitsibushi RVR and not a CRV for the transmission issues with the accord. J. Atkinson automotive technican red seal # B-1300302
I have a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6. It just hit 122k miles and the transmission is seriously acting up. Between 20-40mph it suddenly jumps up to at least 5000rpms (or more, depending on if I’m going up a hill / trying to accelerate quicker). The check engine light never came on – so computers aren’t coming back with anything. The funny thing, the car has always been a little jerky from time to time – hesitating when I try to accelerate sometimes – but conveniently, it never seemed to act up at the dealership. It did a strange downshift sort of thing a few months back a few times, but when I took it in and had some work done, it seemed to unexplainably fix it, I hadn’t felt it since… but now this. I don’t feel safe in the car and I can’t believe that it’s going to cost this much to fix! I’ve always been very good about getting work done on the car – taking it in at the service intervals and if a light ever came on, it didn’t get ignored. I’ve been good to the car! I really liked this car. Unfortunately, I just dumped a decent chunk of change getting other work done on this car. Now the car is becoming a money pit. As attached as I have become to it… I’m thinking I might have to cut my losses. Given this, and the ongoing battery issues my family is having with another 2008 Accord, I’m thinking that I might start looking at cars from other companies.
I just read this whole page about 03 honda accord coupes tranny problems!!! Let me just say I bought my car about 3mnths ago an the car was running perfect I drove it everywhere and also had it checked out at multiple places and everything was fine.. Just recently had my car at honda of Watertown for an oil change.. My car was back there for about an hr and a half!! During the drive home I felt I was driving a lil funny so I brought it back to honda the next day and the basically said its your tranny and that it will cost $4500 to fix!!! It’s a lil funny because my car was driving perfectly fine untill I brought it there.. And they hit something with my car car the back bumper was messed up and it wasn’t like that when I took it ther!! Idk what to do about this tranny problem if anyone has any info or tips of what you did with your honda it will be very helpfull if u can email me at lbeka90@gmail thank you
Hello everyone, I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX-V6 Well, it seems by the hundreds of complaints on here about the 2003 Honda Accord that I’m defenately not the only one with this problem. I was driving on the highway this morning to work doing about 100k an hour when my car suddenly and violently downshifted to 1st gear! I almost knocked myself out on the steering wheel had not been for my seat belt! Lucky for me I have an angel above watching over me and luckily didn’t have a semi tractor trailer behind me otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this to you all right now. It’s scary to think what might of happened. But I’m thanking God mostly that my kids weren’t in the car with me at the time. I can’t believe that this has happened to soo many people and yet Honda does nothing to fix the problem or help its loyal customers. I’ve had nothing but Honda cars over the years and this car has ended my trust in this car company for good! I could of died today….does nobody care for human life anymore?? How many people have already died because of this???? When is this company claiming responsibility for their poorly constructed vehicles??? Have they not learned anything from Toyota??? This is how a company goes down and fast! People lose faith in a car company that they thought to be “reliable” and “worthy” of their hard earned money! This car has had a long list of problems over the years, many recalls etc… For the first time in my life I can say that this will defenately be the last Honda I will ever buy! This company has lost my respect and trust!
Maintained 03 v6 accord by scheduled book. Changed timing belt and 100k tune up in 2012. Then less than 3 months later transmission started slipping. 4k later and the 1800 on the tune up had me at 5k invested. Determined to keep it and drive to get the investment out of it only led to horrible error. 2 more months and a/c out. What do you do? Now nearly 10k invested in this car in 12 months at 118k miles. How disappointing. Bought the car under the reputation of Honda and believing 200k would be easy. Now… Never will I buy a Honda again. Wish I could sell but hate to put such a lemon in someone else.
I bolught my 2003 Honda Accord V6 EX in Aug 2003. Have always maintained my car, one and only owner. 84,777 miles transmission is gone having a new one put in this week. Not happy any more with Honda. Will looking in to selling it soon after it is fixed. Have loved my car up to this point.
i share everybodys problem downshift from third gear to 1 gear ,i didnt know that was a common problem i have 80.000 miles.
Proudly owner of Honda accord EX 2003, until my transmission start failing at 150000 miles, previous to this failure I did change the timing belt, hoping to pass 200000 ……….. Honda … I was so close to re invest my money on a newer model ………. Sorry ..like my transmission ….my money is not longer going to Honda …. Lemon aide…
I am a proud owner of a 2003 Accord fully load; its well maintained and clean. File a report with NHTSA about the vehicle’s transmission in 2/22/2013 and I called today 4/12/2013 and they are still reviewing it and does not think its a urgent filing…. Call American Honda and they are not able to assist in any way with this problem. I have a call in to my local dealership and that may end up the same way as well. Long story short….when I brought this car in July of 2003 it was special ordered fully loaded, power everything. Today that strong reliable vehicle is now sitting in my garage collecting dust at 133,000 miles. I’m so disappointed in Honda lack of research and honesty to fix what they know is a huge issue. I wanted to sell it or even trade it before I knew of this issue, but can’t do either now…won’t be Honda. Cost to repair is ~$4,000.00 from Honda. Local Aamco and other folks are saying they can do it for ~$2,700 – $3,400 with a better warranty than Honda…lifetime of the vehicle. Now I hear the entire cause of this transmission issue is the computer…technology. Yet when I called Honda today they are not aware of it at all! What should I do?
Add me to the list too…. 2003 V6 EXL 143,000. Driving down the toll road at 70 mph; all of a sudden bam! Auto trans drops down into 2nd gear, then 1 sec later back into 5th, then 1 sec later back into 2nd. WOW… glad I had my seat belt on, tires chirped… thought I left the transmission behind me. Good thing no one was tailing me or I would have been rear ended. I am an engineer and this was anything but safe driving… I would not want my wife or one of my kids driving when something like this happens… It was surprising to say the least. I then drove in 2nd gear 45 mph (as it would not shift any higher) to Honda and they quoted me 5k for a rebuilt and could work the price down some…
@Carla Kraetsch “I bolught my 2003 Honda Accord V6 EX in Aug 2003. Have always maintained my car, one and only owner. 84,777 miles transmission is gone.” Sounds just like me, I bought my Accord Ex V6 in the summer of 2003, 85k miles, well maintained, one and only owner, love this car. Three days ago the very same transmission failure that has happened to everyone on this board happened to me. What are our cars worth now if we fix the transmission and sell them? Local mechanic referred me to another local shop and said I was looking at a little more than $3200 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. If I could fix it for $3200 and dump it for $6500 I’d probably do it. Looking in Auto Trader, the asking price in my area is from $7k-$9k
