Warner Brothers puts cuckoo’s egg on DVD

The latest DVD from my Netflix queue came in the mail today, The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. I noticed that the DVD infringes on my privacy in a questionable way. There is a web page on the disk that, when loaded into a browser, will request an image from digitalcopy.warnerbros.com. This request will tell Warner Brothers where you are and what you are watching. There is also an executable on the disk, DVD_SPECIAL_FEATURES.exe. Not knowing what other hidden surprises this program may contain, I resisted the temptation to launch it.

The reason for this post is the HTML file and the links to the Warner Brothers site, though. I took the liberty to embed a link to that same very URL in this page as well, to confuse the folks at WB a little. I hope you don’t mind that you and your IP address are now on Warner Brothers’ most wanted list :-).
