For the many of us who ripped a substantial CD collection years ago and didn’t originally buy them all on Amazon.com, this is a very valid question.
- Amazon Music allows 250 free songs
- Google Play Music allows 50,000 free songs
If you don’t want to get milked by Amazon and pay AGAIN for your music ($25/year buys space for up to 50,000 songs on Amazon), you only have one option: get Google Home. Neither device allows you to stream music from their competitor’s service, so the cloud storage really determines which device you should get.
In addition, Google Home can act as a destination for Google Cast, which gives you added flexibility for playing 3rd party content (even if the Amazon Music app does not support casting).
Alexa was a gift to my wife and we are stuck with her, with no access to my music.
